Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs)

Temporary anchorage devices, or TADs, have redefined what is possible in orthodontics. When used correctly and in appropriate situations, TADs allow patients who would have otherwise required surgery, to receive non-surgical treatment. Having been trained in the most progressive and clinically successful techniques of TAD placement, Dr. Gass and his staff are experts at placing TADs, thus making it a non-event for patients.
How Are TADs Placed?
As with any treatment, our goal at Lanier Orthodontics is to ensure that every treatment experience is as comfortable as possible. To minimize discomfort, a very strong gel anesthetic is placed using a cotton swap to numb the gum tissue. Once numb, Dr. Gass will gently place the device. The entire experience is quick and painless, so you should only feel a slight pressure as the TAD is placed. Once your treatment has come to an end, the device will be removed using a similar procedure.
Caring For Your Device
If you happen to feel discomfort with your TAD, over-the-counter pain relievers can be taken to lessen any soreness. However, if the pain continues, please don’t hesitate to call us; we will work quickly to resolve the issue, as you should not be experiencing any long-term discomfort with the device.
Throughout treatment, you will provide the same care for your TAD as you will with your braces. Each time you brush your teeth, gently brush on and around the TAD. This will prevent unwanted plaque buildup that could lead to infection around the device.
